Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) held a press conference this morning in Fort Myers regarding Hurricane season where the governor along with Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie, discussed Hurricane season from a Home Depot location on Alico Road in south Fort Myers.  Governor DeSantis also doubled down on the upcoming election, assuring that "we are a solid Republican state."

Governor DeSantis highlighted the Disaster tax preparedness holiday that runs until June 14, calling on Floridians to ensure they have water, canned food and other nonperishables, batteries, flashlights, portable power banks, and other hurricane necessities. As part of the holiday tax breaks, Floridians can benefit from purchasing portable generators, tarps, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, portable radios, and much more.

If Floridians are not able to take advantage of the holiday tax breaks, there will be another holiday season at the peak of hurricane season, which runs from August 24th to September 26th.

He touted the response and recovery that the state has had to past hurricanes, claiming that Florida is ready for the challenge. As well, the governor argued that Floridians have nothing to worry about regarding any criminal activity taking place during a hurricane. “If something does strike, and you have a period where you don’t have access to power… we are gonna uphold the rule of law in this state,” he said during the press conference.

“We’re not gonna let you loot while other people are suffering. If you do, we’re gonna throw the book at you.”

Governor DeSantis also commented on the upcoming election, citing that the state has led by example. One distinction he noted between Florida and other states, is that “these liberal states do dumb things… and then they double down on the dumb policies… that is not a cycle that we are interested in indulging in.” It's the reason why he believes that Florida has received an influx of people from blue states.

When asked about President Donald Trump's (R) guilty verdict and what his involvement in the campaign will be, the governor wasted no time in declaring his continued support for President Trump. “We’ve been active in raising money… we’re gonna continue to do that."

As far as races in Florida are concerned, Governor DeSantis is confident that Republicans will come out victorious.

"We are a solid Republican state. I don’t think the statewide races are competitive at all.”
