WASHINGTON— In a recent interview with The Floridian, Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) expressed interest in becoming  Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) in President Donald Trump's second term in office, if he defeats President Joe Biden in November.

Rep. Mast initially discussed fixing issues within the VA, such as vacancies for hospital directors, nurses, and physical therapists, and how military personnel do not need to fill these positions.

When we asked Rep. Mast if he would like to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs if former President Trump wins reelection in November, he said there were "a number of places in the executive branch that are very close to my heart, whether it is because of my status as a veteran or my work in Congress."

As a result, Mast said he would "of course, be interested in having the opportunity to bring America First reforms and common sense reforms to this place."

After all, the Florida Congressman and veteran noted, the Biden Administration's objectives for the military have gone from "defense of the United States and deterrence to our enemies" to "social experimentation." Thus, it would be necessary to "get the wokeness out of the military."

Mast's comments come a day after Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) recently brought to light race-based support groups and programs that exclude white veterans at VA facilities in California, Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota.

From there, Mast described how he would run the VA, saying he would personally visit every facility, "making sure they know that the boss is present and expecting the highest level of service." He humorously added that he would travel around the country with his family in an RV or Winnebago to do so.

"I’d get a big RV, bigger than a Winnebago, and Id make sure the family goes with me from VA to VA across the country, getting the tail end in each one of them making sure they know that the boss is present and expecting the highest level of service…you have to be a field general for the VA,”said Mast.

Nevertheless, the remark aligned with his sentiment that "you do not need the bean counter in Washington, D.C." and "you have got to be a field general for the VA."
