Democrats Pursuing Bill to Disqualify Trump From Election

Share

Although the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that states did not have the authority to remove President Donald Trump (R) from the ballot box, Democrats are pursuing other means to address the matter. In response to the ruling, Democrats are now seeking to introduce legislation that would disqualify candidates like President Trump from elections.

In a blow to Trump opposers, the Supreme Court ruled that states do not have the authority to remove President Trump from the ballot as per section 3 of the 14th Amendment. They ruled that only Congress has the authority to do so.

In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin (D) announced that he’s working alongside Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) and California Rep. Eric Swalwell (D) to reintroduce legislation from 2022. The bill would create a pathway allowing the Justice Department to sue to keep candidates off the ballot under the 14th Amendment.

Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R), who's name has circulated as a possible Vice Presidential candidate, is pushing back against the effort, assuring that “it’s not gonna matter. It’s not gonna happen.

During an interview with FOX News after the ruling, Rep. Donalds disregarded the effort, saying that Democrats ““can say whatever they want, but it’s not going to be successful. It’s not gonna get through the House. Frankly, it’s not gonna go anywhere in the Senate, so this is just them trying to keep up their lame story, trying to… interfere with this election.”

"That’s what the Democrats have been up to this entire time… the Supreme Court was clear. The voters will decide this general election," Donalds continued.

The upcoming election has taken a turn as President Trump has overtaken President Joe Biden (D) in the polls. A recent CBS News poll indicated that more voters believe President Trump has a vision for the country compared to president Biden.
