Steube and GOP Megadonor: Drop Out, Nikki Haley

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has vowed to remain in the 2024 GOP primary despite two straight losses. Even one of her donors, Andy Sabin, has recently called on her to drop out. Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) offered insight into the development in a recent appearance on Fox and Friends First, reiterating that Republicans should unite behind Donald Trump while also saying he will not worry about who Trump picks for running mate/Vice President.

"Look, the Republican Party is all behind Donald Trump, it is clear. He crushed it in Iowa. He won the most votes of any primary voter on the R side or the D side in New Hampshire, and he is leading Nikki Haley in South Carolina by 30 points," said Rep. Steube, reminding viewers that there is no path to victory for her, just as there was not for anyone else.

Co-host Carley Shimkus asked Rep. Steube about polls showing Haley beating Joe Biden by a wider margin than Trump would in November, only for him to reply that different polls show different results.

"It depends on what polls you look at, but consistently over the last six months to a year, the strongest person to go against Joe Biden for Republicans in November is Donald Trump. He is the only person that can walk in on day one and reverse all of this horrible policy that the Biden Administration has put on the American people over the last three years," Steube continued.

Shimkus then pivoted to the best strategy for Trump to fully unite the Republican Party and snag some votes from moderates. Picking Haley has been discussed frequently, but Steube said Trump's base would not support the move, and Steube said he does not wish to speculate.

"I do not know what he would gain by putting Nikki Haley as the Vice President," Steube said. Although he "certainly would want somebody that is going to diversify the ticket from a political standpoint," he will not spend much time on it because "the bottom line is we need Trump in the White House and in November so that he can start in January to bring our country back on track."

Moreover, before the New Hampshire primary, Trump seemingly confirmed he would not consider Haley.

Other potential picks for Trump have been Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Arizona's Kari Lake. However, the latter recently stated she would prefer helping Trump as a Senator than Vice President.
