Donalds Scolds Senate Republicans in Fox News Appearance

Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) appeared on Fox News’ “Life, Liberty & Levin” to discuss Republican leadership strategies (or lack thereof) in the Legislative Branch.

The Florida congressman is tired of the right side of the aisle putting the ball in the Democrats’ court when it comes to governing effectively.

“Too often, some of my colleagues in the House and too many Republican senators say, ‘Well, we have to show we can govern, we have to demonstrate to the American people that we can actually keep the government moving,’ and that’s not what the American people are looking for,” said Rep. Donalds.

He continued, “We have to demonstrate that we can lead. We have to demonstrate that there are principles – some basic bedrock ideals that we are going to fight for, and there are legislative solutions that are going to put our country in the best position possible and put our people in the best position possible.”

Furthermore, Rep. Donalds mentioned if the left side of the aisle doesn’t want to adhere to these standards, then it’s “their problem” that they have to deal with.

“If the Democrats don’t want to go along with that, that’s their problem. That’s not ours. But we shouldn’t just be trying to come up with these negotiated governing arrangements so the federal government can remain open,” said Donalds. “What we should be doing is leading.”

Finally, the House Oversight Committee Member concluded with the notion that the GOP in the upper chamber should try to stop leading from behind.

“My biggest hope is that at some point, the Senate Republicans will join us to actually be leaders in this country and not just capitulate to the Democrats.”

Additionally, Rep. Donalds said there is a rationale as to why Republicans aren’t listening to the Senate and its proposed border security deal. He also emphasized that Congress needs to pass HR 2, a border security bill that the House passed over eight months ago.

“There's a REASON we aren't listening to the Senate. Their deal lets politicians save face & pat themselves on the back but NOTHING would change. That's [dead on arrival] in the House. We're interested in REAL solutions. We PASSED HR2 263 DAYS AGO. HR2 protects America & migrants themselves,” said Donalds.

Congressman Donalds represents Florida’s 19th Congressional District.
