Salazar Attends President Milei’s Inauguration in Argentina

Since Javier Milei was elected last month as Argentina’s next president, Florida lawmakers have touted his win as beneficial to the future of Argentina. One lawmaker who endorsed him and continues to tout his win is Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R). Over the weekend, Rep. Salazar attended the inauguration of President Milei, signaling that the United States is ready to partner with Argentina.

Taking to social media, Rep. Salazar shared a picture of herself attending the inauguration of President Milei.

“Your steadfast dedication to the principles of liberty and free markets will guide your people well,” she wrote, noting that “the energy in Argentina is palpable.”

“It’s a new day for Argentines who voted to leave decades of socialism in the past,” she concluded.

President Milei was elected in a decisive manner in November, running on a platform that would remove government agencies and address skyrocketing inflation in the country. Once seen as someone with no chance of winning, President Milei’s unconventional form of campaigning attracted attention. At one point, President Milei campaigned with a chainsaw, symbolic of slashing government agencies and government intrusion in people’s lives.

In late November, Rep. Salazar and Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) directed a letter to President Milei, congratulating him for his presidential win while also affirming that they are looking forward to partnering with him in the remainder of the 118th Congress.

“Argentina can usher in a new era of economic prosperity, and rampant inflation brought on by years of leftist fiscal and monetary policy, and serve as another beacon of liberty in the Western Hemisphere,” they wrote.

Over the weekend, Rep. Salazar also shared an interview segment wherein she responded to comments that President Milei had made regarding China. President Milei has commented that he wants Argentina to separate itself from China, and Rep. Salazar agrees that that’s best, pointing out the threat that China poses to not only to Argentina but to the United States as well.
