Mast Holds 'Low' Expectations for US-China Meeting in San Francisco

Chinese President Xi Jinping is visiting San Francisco this week to meet with President Biden for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) said his expectations of the meeting's outcome were "low" in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria, adding that "Biden is not the man to negotiate for America."

Rep. Mast reminded viewers of Biden's repeated instances of being unable to hold seemingly scripted press conferences, asking them to "imagine what he is like candidly, behind closed doors with Xi Jinping going through a translator even though we know he speaks perfect English."

While Rep. Mast's claim that Xi Jinping can speak 'perfect' English cannot be verified, the point seems that the refusal to speak English on American soil intends to express dominance over Biden, who frequently trips over his words.

"We know China wants to do strategic things to China's advantage: Get the world on China currency, get the world on China markets, get the world on China trade, China's advantage everywhere. And Joe Biden is not the man to negotiate for America. We just know that," Mast continued.

Host Maria Bartiromo inquired if the Chinese are likely to agree to international nuclear arms control treaties through the United States. Business Insider reported that part of the APEC meeting will have Xi and Biden sign a deal limiting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in nuclear weapon control systems, although Mast was doubtful the Chinese would follow through on it.

"Very low likelihood of that," said Mast, "The assessment by any intelligence agency would be a low likelihood that could take place for a variety of reasons. Again, the cheap point is that China wants order in the world, but China order, not America order, and anything that puts America in the driver's seat, they are going to look to resist," Mast concluded.

In July, Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) blasted the Biden Administration as "begging" China to meet with the United States, saying it makes us look weak. Similarly, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) called a visit to China in October by Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) "pure appeaseme
