Scott on Censuring Rashida Tlaib, 'If You Support Hamas, You Shouldn't Be in Congress'

The Floridian sat down with Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) to discuss a recent motion to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib (R-MI) for her support of Hamas introduced by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). In fact, he said, "If you support Hamas, I do not know why you should be in Congress."

Sen. Scott began by briefly congratulating Representative Mike Johnson (R-LA) on becoming Speaker of the House after nearly three weeks, especially after his first action was to affirm the United States' support of Israel. Additionally, he blasted the so-called "Squad" of progressive Democrats who have sympathized with Hamas and all but justified their attack against Israel earlier in October.

"I cannot believe that there are members of the House that are paid for by your tax dollars that want to go and support somebody that murders babies. Someone that rapes teenage girls, someone that takes Israeli and American hostages, and basically, they support what Hamas is doing," said Scott.

We then asked what he thought about Rep. Greene's introduction of a censure against Rep. Tlaib and if it should apply to other members of the "Squad," such as Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

"I think if you support Hamas, I do not know why you should be in Congress," Scott answered, adding, "It is real simple. I do not care where it is: If Americans are held hostage, it is part of our military's responsibility to bring them home."

Furthermore, Scott said, "Our American military has to figure out how to bring our hostages home, so that is number one. Number two is if you attack American soldiers or sailors, you should be annihilated."

Rep. Greene introduced the motion to censure after Tlaib spoke with the pro-Palestine protestors who gathered in the Capitol Rotunda advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza. As such, the motion accused Tlaib of "leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex," in addition to "antisemitic activity" and "sympathizing with terrorist organizations." The motion has been filed as a privileged resolution, which will be put to vote within the coming week.

Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) has signaled his support of the motion, telling reporters, "[Tlaib's] comments have been violent. Hamas beheaded babies. What are we talking about? When I see Rashida, I talk to her and say hello. I have no personal animosity towards Rashida at all. But her commentary towards our greatest ally in the region? Come on. If that hits the floor, I'm voting yes."
