Washington, D.C.- A group of nearly 200 Lawmakers in the US House of Representatives has introduced a resolution condemning Hamas' brutal attack on Israel and demands Hamas immediately release all hostages.
The effort was spearheaded by Representatives Haley Stevens (D-MI) and French Hill (R-AR), co-Chairs of the Congressional Task Force on American Hostages and Americans Wrongfully Detained Abroad.
“This bi-partisan resolution demands that Hamas release the innocent men, women, and children kidnapped and held,” stated Rep. Stevens.
Further condemning Hamas’ actions, Stevens explained “Hamas holding innocent Israeli civilians hostage is the ultimate act of terrorism, this resolution recognizes these acts for what they are – abhorrent.”
Stevens’ resolution is the latest initiative in a string of congressional acts responding to Hamas’ terrorist attacks.
Yesterday, Senators Rick Scott (R-Fl) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), along with 18 Republican senators, publicly requested President Joe Biden halt fund transfers to Iran, Hamas’ largest donor.
Earlier during the week, another bipartisan coalition of Democrat and Republican House of Representatives lawmakers wrote a letter to President Joe Biden demanding the US cut-off any funding for Iran.
“Iran must be held fully accountable for its continued role in funding Hamas and Islamic terror” and the Biden administration should “take all necessary steps to cut off Iranian funding sources,” reads the letter.
Despite mounting pressure, Biden is not changing course on his foreign policy strategy with Iran, which centers on bilateral normalization of relations and renewed trade.
Absent action from Biden, Iran could soon have authority to develop ballistic missiles, as a UN ban on the missiles is set to expire today.
