Florida Lawmakers Remember September 11th

Share

Twenty-two years ago today, two airplanes struck the World Trade Center in New York City. A third crashed into the Pentagon. A fourth was prevented from striking an unknown target by the heroic efforts of its passengers in taking back the plane. Florida lawmakers, Democrat and Republican alike, have commemorated this fateful day in American history.

Representative Scott Franklin (R-FL) stated, "22 years ago, America suffered cowardly attacks by evil forces who hate the freedom on which our nation is built. While we will never forget the nearly 3,000 Americans lost on 9/11, we also find comfort in the strength and resilience we showed as a country following the attacks."

Similarly, Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) tweeted, "September 11, 2001 changed the world forever. We will #NeverForget those who lost their lives on and after 9/11 nor the brave heroes who answered the call to protect America in its darkest hour."

Representative Cory Mills (R-FL), in addition to honoring the victims, assured veterans that their service was not in vain. "On this solemn 22nd anniversary of September 11th, we honor the lives lost, the heroes who emerged, and the resilience of our nation. While we will never forget that tragic day in 2001, let’s honor the memory of the lives lost by standing together in unity. To our military members and veterans who served the last 20+ years, your service was not in vain. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I will continue to fight for the care and support you deserve."

Representative Vern Buchanan (R-FL) said, "Today marks 22 years since the heinous terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. We must #NeverForget the innocent men, women and children that lost their lives as well as the heroic first responders that sacrificed life and limb to rescue survivors."

Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) stated, "No matter how many years go by, may we always honor the American lives lost in the horrific 9/11 attack on our nation. We’ll never forget this day & those who were there immediately to serve after this tragedy, many at the expense of their own lives. #NeverForget."

Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) tweeted, "On this solemn day, we forever remember and honor the lives lost. From the courageous first responders to the selfless civilian volunteers, let us #NeverForget the resilience of the American people and the unity that emerged from this tragic day."

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL): "Twenty-two years ago, nineteen terrorists took 2,977 innocent lives in the deadliest attack against America in our history. We will never forget."

Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) referenced his time as a fire chief coordinating Florida Task Force II at Ground Zero. "On the 22nd anniversary of 9/11, I reflect on my time spent at Ground Zero with the Florida Task Force II created when I was Miami’s Fire Chief. Today, we honor the victims and the selfless first responders who risked their lives to save others. #NeverForget."

Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL): "Each September 11th, we must remember those who were lost and retell their stories so that their legacy may live on. May we #NeverForget their sacrifice to our country."

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) posted a short video commemorating the attack, in addition to his caption of "22 years ago, I was in NYC when terrorists attacked America. What happened on that day in NYC, PA and VA shook our nation, but we did not fall. Today, we remember those lost, the first responders and their families. Freedom will always triumph, and we will #NeverForget."

Representative Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) simply said, "never forget."

Finally, Representative Kathy Castor (D-FL) said, "The #TampaBay community will #NeverForget the sacrifice and loss on 9/11.   Today we honor our heroes, victims, families and military who demonstrated the greatness of America, many of whom laid down their lives to save others."
