Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) held the Biden Administration's foreign policy under a microscope in an interview with The Floridian, saying we need a President "that is going to stand up to these thugs around the world," yet he came short of fully endorsing any Republicans running in the primary.
Sen. Scott described how President Biden seemingly appeases America's adversaries, reducing sanctions against the Maduro regime in Venezuela, not acting against Nicaraguan dictator Daniel Ortega, and welcoming an Iranian delegation as they negotiate with Cuba.
"The Ayatollah is trying to negotiate a deal with Cuba, and [Biden] welcomes a delegation here. Look at [Colombian President Gustavo] Petro, who is trying to take away democracy in Colombia. [Biden] invites him to the White House. He reduced sanctions against Maduro and his family. He has done nothing to hold Ortega accountable in Nicaragua. So I do not get it. I do not know what Xi [Jinping] has over Biden or his family, but Biden does not stand up to him," said Sen. Scott.
Sen. Scott was then asked if as an insider under President Donald Trump, if he would endorse the latter's reelection campaign. While Scott spoke approvingly of Trump's foreign policy, he neglected to give an endorsement, focusing on his own reelection for Senate.
Scott did, however, say, "We have a lot of good Republicans running," even as they lag far behind Trump in the polls.
"[Trump] is ahead in all the polls, but we will see. We will see what happens. I have got my Senate race, I have not endorsed in the Presidential race. I know we have a lot of good Republicans running, but you know, Trump is way ahead in all the polls," Scott concluded.
In April, Scott chided Trump's biggest rival in 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), for saying Floridians were not proud of Florida until DeSantis became Governor.
"I’ve always been proud to live in Florida and I’ve never met another Floridian who isn’t proud to live in the Sunshine State. We have great weather, low taxes, and pride in our state and our country and its history," said Scott in response to DeSantis's statement.
