After the US Supreme Court struck down Biden's student loan forgiveness plan, Liberal lawmakers across the nation had many choice words of disapproval for the judicial action. Now, State Senator Shevrin Jones (D) is attacking the courts, claiming the SCOTUS is, "dismantling our democracy."
The SCOTUS has taken up the news headlines these past 48 hours with infamously ruling the long standing affirmative action unconstitutional and now striking down student loan forgiveness for college students.
If the student loan plan proposed by President Biden (D) went into effect, 43 million Americans would have benefitted. The plan would have cancelled up to $20,000 in student debt by borrowers.
Senator Jones stated, "This week’s atrocious rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court are yet another reminder that elections matter and have real consequences. The fact that six unelected individuals subsidized by billionaires are so aggressively dismantling our democracy is deeply unsettling. As a result, millions of Americans will be less economically secure, less free, and less able to access opportunities this country ought to afford everyone, regardless of circumstances. I applaud President Biden's commitment to the people, especially young Americans."
Conservatives have conversely argued that Biden's plan is unconstitutional as the president does not have the, "power of the purse," or the powers of the United States Congress over national financial issues.
