While Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has not officially announced a run for president in 2024, his fundraising numbers would indicate that he will be on a debate stage against former President Donald Trump (R) within the next several months.
In just the month of March, the Friends of Ron DeSantis committee raised almost $3.68 million, bringing their total to approximately $86 million.
That’s some serious cash.
$2.5 million alone came from two different contributors. $1.5 million came from James B. Whitely, a real estate broker from Athens, Georgia. The other million dollars came from Rural Route 3 Holdings LP, a “commodities holding” firm from Houston, Texas.
Gov. DeSantis, who is expected to announce his presidential candidacy in early May, holds a significant fundraising advantage over President Trump, but it is still too early to tell if DeSantis will have to spend the bulk of that mountain of cash to get name recognition in all the early primary states?
“I know he likes to bench press and all, but I believe Ron has only begun to flex his fundraising muscles. He has too much potential and momentum behind him going into his presidential announcement,” stated Floridan Publisher Javier Manjarres.
“Expect him to continue crushing fundraising numbers,” Manjarres concluded.
However, the former President raised a large amount of money following his arrest by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who charged Trump with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
President Trump took aim at DeSantis on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that it will “divide the Republican Party.”
“Ron DeSantis is a young man who is not doing well against me in the polls, to put it mildly,” Trump stated on the platform. “I believe that if he decides to run for President, which will only hurt and somewhat divide the Republican Party, he will lose the cherished and massive MAGA vote, and never be able to successfully run for office again.”
