Recently, Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) made a trip to Yuma, Arizona to discuss how Republicans in Congress and the legislative branch as a whole, can address the illegal immigration crisis at the southern border.

While being interviewed by Real America’s Voice, Rep. Gaehttps://floridianpres.wpenginepowered.com/2023/02/gaetz-intros-war-powers-resolution-pull-us-syria/tz mentions the notion that the House of Representatives will have to lead the charge for any sort of immigration reform.

“We have an administration intent on turning the border into a turnstile and a Senate that’s not intent on doing much of anything,” stated Rep. Gaetz.

He went on to mention that the federal government is failing to “unleash the capabilities” of the institutions such as the Border Patrol.

“So, if anything’s going to happen, it’s going to because the House of Representatives ignites the demand for the asylum reforms, for the stay-in-Mexico policies, for the physical border security, and for the support for our customs and border patrol to do something other than immigration processing, to actually unleash their capabilities to secure our border,” said Gaetz.

The Florida congressman was proud of the efforts he made in early January to hold the line against now-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Gaetz demanded concessions concerning the ability to diversify how the House looks at different departments’ budgets.

“Now because of the tools I fought really hard for at the beginning of January, we’re actually going to individually consider these different agencies and their budget proposals because before you had to vote for the Homeland Security budget the same time you voted for the Department of Education budget or the Department of Labor budget,” Gaetz mentioned.

“So now we’re going to be able to tweeze through the different strategies that are effective, and we’re going to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.”
