Scott Sends Twitter Firestorm at Biden over Border

Share

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) sent out a political firestorm towards President Joe Biden (D) after his appearance at the southern border. Republicans have criticized President both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris (D) for their lack of attentiveness to the illegal immigration issue, thus calling out the fact that neither has taken trips to the border until now.

“The catastrophe @JoeBiden created at our southern border has been OBVIOUS for YEARS. Why is he just visiting today? Makes you wonder if the goal is securing our border or distracting us from the problem…” tweeted Sen. Scott.

In addition to his social media posting, Sen. Scott sent out a total of 7 tweets in about just over 24 hours condemning Biden’s efforts at the border despite the President’s visit.

One tweet included Scott declaring that he has a plan to secure the border and questions whether Biden has one himself. Another one states that the President needs to “go into the communities suffering from his open border policies and see the problems he created with his own eyes.”

However, the most viral tweet (in terms of total viewership) is the tweet he sent out which includes a statement about the deadly fentanyl that crosses the border every day and kills tens of thousands of Americans through drug trafficking over the border.

“Deadly fentanyl has been pouring over our southern border and into our communities FOR MONTHS, and @JoeBiden has COMPLETELY and UTTERLY ignored the problem. SECURING OUR BORDER must be a TOP PRIORITY,” tweeted Scott.

In mid-December, Sen. Scott introduced the “END FENTANYL” Act. The bill calls for the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to improve and reform its approach every three years to “ensure drug interdiction guidance is up to date.” According to a 2019 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, the last time the interdiction guidance was updated was 2 decades ago.

The bill also requires a report from the Commissioner of CBP to send a report to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate and the Homeland Security Committee in the House of Representatives.
