The forces of "wokeness" know no bounds in the American culture wars, and the armed forces are no exception. Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL-6) spoke of how this focus on cultural issues within the military is affecting its readiness, while China prioritizes research and buildup.
Rep. Waltz recently appeared on Fox's Modern Warriors, providing more detail on how wokeness permeates throughout the armed forces. In a series of tweets, Waltz describes several efforts by the Biden Administration to implement the left-wing social agenda.
First, Waltz tells of an ongoing attempt to transition to a fully-electric vehicle pool. "The Left has proposed to replace military vehicles with electric ones, completely ignoring whether or not these vehicles would actually be more lethal or beneficial to our military's readiness," he says, calling it "another ridiculous policy being driven by Biden’s Pentagon political appointees."
"We're running around preaching climate strategy to take our entire military vehicle fleet; tanks, armored personnel carriers, Humvees; all electric, by 2035 to 2045," Waltz says in the footage. "I want the tanks that are going to kill the most bad guys and be the most lethal, not the one that's least carbon emitting," he adds.
Second, Waltz describes how cadets are reaching out to him about critical race theory indoctrination they have to sit through. "I've heard directly from cadets & active service members that 'wokeism' is a real problem that's affecting our military's unity. It's divisive," he tweets, followed by "Our military should be focused on readiness & standards."
Beginning in this second clip, Waltz addresses those critics who say "this is overblown, this is made up." Waltz counters saying that "the soldiers, the sailors, the families of the cadets that are ringing our phones off the hook; that are sending the briefings, like "How to Cope with Your Whiteness and White Rage," they have a very different view. They are incredibly uncomfortable because they feel that they'll be canceled within the military organization." He describes how he will fight this sort of indoctrination in Congress, a battle Congressman-elect Cory Mills (R-FL-7) will join him in.
Finally, the third tweet discusses how such measures are counterproductive to military readiness and effectiveness. "In the foxhole, race, religion, & socio-economic background don't matter," Waltz tweets, "as a Green Beret, I learned that as Americans serving our country and a cause greater than ourselves — the only “colors” we saw were red, white & blue."
This third clip is easily the most poignant. "It is hell when you're out there," says Waltz. "And you need to know somebody has your back, and can do it. But right now it seems like the biggest priority is the politics of the day." He hammers home how this is not the way the military should work, because "whether you're a farm boy from Indiana, or from inner-city Detroit, or wherever. Jewish, Christian, Muslim, you're all forced together."
Waltz concludes, "that's why I think we have to get back to national service, some shared sacrifice for a cause bigger, and then the only color you're worried about is red, white, and blue. Because you're all Americans serving a cause bigger than yourselves."
