The tension between President Donald Trump (R) and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) continues to brew as Gov. DeSantis has responded to Trump's choice words.
Ahead of the November 8th election, Trump directed a verbal jab at DeSantis, dubbing him "Ron DeSanctimonious." After the election, Trump once again criticized DeSantis. While he hadn't responded to the comments, DeSantis is now directing Trump to the "scoreboard" in response to the criticism.
Last week, President Trump released a lengthy statement, accusing DeSantis of not being "loyal." The statement came as chatter grew surrounding DeSantis launching a potential 2024 presidential run. DeSantis has not commented on whether he intends to run, but this week Trump is expected to announce his own intention to run for the White House.
During a press conference in Fort Walton Beach, DeSantis was asked about Trump's comments, which included Trump taking credit for DeSantis' rise in the political world. In response to the comments, DeSantis said, "I would just tell people to go check out the scoreboard from last Tuesday night."
"One of the things I've learned in this job is when you're leading, when you're getting things done, you take incoming fire, that's just the nature of it," DeSantis expressed. Ahead of the 2018 election, Trump endorsed DeSantis. However, given that media speculation is questioning if DeSantis will make a run for the presidency, Trump has expressed that DeSantis is being classless and disloyal for not outright stating if he plans to run.
"Ron DeSanctimonious is playing games," said Trump in his lengthy statement, explaining that "the Fake News asks him if he's going to run if President Trump runs, and he says, 'I'm only focused on the Governor's race, I'm not looking into the future.'"
Trump also directed choice words at Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R), but the Virginia Governor has not responded.
