With the midterm election around the corner, Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) is gaining a push as Senator Marco Rubio (R) polls ahead of her. Over the weekend, both President Barack Obama (D) and Senator Cory Booker (D) released videos, urging Floridians to vote for her.

This week, President Obama has released a string of videos, endorsing Democrats from across the country. Though the president has already said he will be selective in terms of the candidates he campaigns with, critics are questioning why Democrats are not vying for an endorsement from President Joe Biden (D). In Florida, Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) has welcomed support from the president, praising his efforts in office. Moreover, Rep. Demings will join President Biden and Crist at a campaign rally in Miami Gardens this week.

Demings, who was on the short-list for Biden’s Vice-Presidential pick, enthusiastically welcomed the support from Obama, who championed her time in the House, telling voters that Demings needs to replace Rubio.

“Chief Val Demings is the daughter of a maid and janitor who answered the call to serve for 27 years in law enforcement,” said Obama, adding that “in the Senate, she’ll work with anyone to reduce crime, defend a woman’s right to choose, protect Social Security and Medicare, and lower costs for families.”

Similarly, Senator Booker also urged voters to support Demings on November 8th, calling on Floridians to vote early.

Last week, Florida Rep. Anna V. Eskamani (D) took to social media to comment on early voting, warning that Republicans have overtaken Democrats. Sharing statistics from Fresh Take Florida, the data showed that Republicans were leading in early voting, and “based on early voting trends, it is unlikely Democrats will reclaim the pre-election turnout lead.”

Political pundits have speculated that November 8th will see a “red wave,” and Senator Rubio has expressed confidence that Republicans will “retake Washington.”
