As the United States appears to become more and more “woke” and commonly used words and phrases are changed on a regular basis, many Americans fear when the wokeness creeps into our armed forces. Recently, Fox News has reported that the Air Force Academy has instructed their cadets to use more gender-neutral language such as “parent or caregiver” rather than mom and dad. “Color conscious” is now preferred over colorblind as well.
However, Florida legislators Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) , like many other Americans, have voiced their concern and opposition to the language change in the U.S. Military.
“Discouraging the use of ‘mom and dad’ is yet another attack in Biden and Democrats’ woke war on our families, while our country’s military should be laser-focused on countering actual threats posed by Communist China and Russia to our national security,” said Sen. Scott, in response to The Floridian's request for comment.
Upon hearing the news of the political correctness within the military, many Americans are left wondering, “How does this affect the effectiveness of our armed forces?” With these policies, those who do not see the use of the change in language could start to think that politics is invading the military.
Rep, Steube, a former Captain in the U.S. Army, told The Floridian in a statement that Americans should be very concerned about the nation's "military readiness."
“Under this Commander in Chief, our military prioritizes pronouns and gender identity over the safety and security of the American people. No wonder our military is facing abysmal recruiting numbers. Every American should be concerned about our military readiness because of Leftist progressive policies like this one,” stated Rep. Greg Steube.
Also, Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL), a former U.s. Army Green Beret and a ranking member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee, stated that these practices remind him of Soviet Russia and present-day Communist China.
"To those of us who are a little bit older, it reminds us of what the Soviets used to do or what the Chinese do today, where they literally have political commissars inserted at every level end of the chain of command, but they have a separate reporting chain to ensure that the military is abiding by their ideology and their political doctrine," said Waltz.
