Murphy: Trump Breached 'Democratic Will of' Americans

Share

Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) is set to co-lead the next hearing in the January 6th investigation. Ahead of the next hearing, Rep. Murphy took part in an interview with NBC's Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press" to discuss the future of the investigation, arguing that President Donald Trump (R) was going against "the democratic will of the people."

The January 6 investigation committee, led by Chair Bennie Thompson (D) and Co-Chair Liz Cheney (R), has questioned a number of political figures over the attack on the Capitol. With Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist of the Trump administration, set to testify in front of the committee, Murphy provided an update on the committee's findings and what's left to investigate.

On Tuesday, Pat Cipolloni, the former White House counsel for President Trump, is scheduled to testify. When asked if Cipolloni would be providing a full testimony on Tuesday, Rep. Murphy commented that "we are always receiving new information from a lot of different sources, and we are trying to pull the information that the American people most need to hear, and I imagine that you will be hearing things from Mr. Cipollone, but also from others that were in the White House."

When asked what lies ahead in the investigation, Murphy explained that "the focus of this next hearing will be on the domestic violent extremists, as well as Members of Congress, people that the President called in to assist him in this pressure campaign, and this pressure campaign is a follow-on to the previous hearings where we talked about how the President pressured the Vice President, pressured the Department of Justice, pressured state election and electors to just call the race in his favor."

The committee has determined that the President knew he had lost, but he attempted to breach "the democratic will of the people" to remain in power."
