DeSantis: ‘Freedom is Winning’

Share

Recent reports have indicated that Republicans have picked up over 1 million in new voter registrations. There’s no telling if the recent Supreme Court ruling over Roe vs. Wade will affect Republican momentum ahead of the midterm election, but Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is calling the surge in voter registrations a victory. This week, DeSantis declared that “Freedom is winning” in Florida, and he expects that the country will elect a “red wave” in November.

Earlier this week, a report from the Associated Press indicated that 1 million voters had switched parties to the Republican party. This switch spans 43 states.

According to PBS, “nowhere is the shift more pronounced – and dangerous for Democrats – than in the suburbs where well-educated swing voters who turned against Trump’s Republican Party in recent years appear to be swinging back.”

In Florida, Democrats are hoping to pick up wins, and one seat Democrats are vying for is Florida’s gubernatorial post.

However, DeSantis, who’s facing challengers in both Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) and Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D), argues that the recent surge in Republican support only indicates that the GOP is as energized as ever.

In a message to supporters, DeSantis announced that “Florida Republicans have a 189,000 lead in voter registrations over Florida Democrats.”

“When I was elected in 2018, the opposite was true,” he said, commenting that the state “had a deficit of Florida Republicans in comparison to Florida Democrats of nearly 300,000 registrations.”

As a result of Republicans overtaking Democrats in voter registrations, Governor DeSantis calls it a shift that “sends a clear message to the lockdown liberals who tried to control your life for the better part of two and a half years: Floridians choose freedom.”

Calling the shift “the Democrats’ worst fear,” DeSantis added that “liberals will stop at nothing to best their opponents, so we need to be prepared for the onslaught of attacks that are sure to ensue as they try to make sense of these numbers.”
