Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis did not give the media or Pro-Life advocates what they wanted to hear when asked if he would squeeze a measure to ban abortion if the Supreme Court struck down the long-standing Roe vs. Wade decision.
“I would just caution people, you know, you can leak stuff out of a court, which is really unprecedented. But let's see when you actually have something rendered because you know how they negotiate these things. I don't think any of us really know when you get behind that, you know, they keep it all very secretive,” said Gov. DeSantis.
DeSantis did appear to dangle a great big piece of political red meat in front of the pro-Life lobby, saying that he would look to address the abortion issue if and when the Supreme Court decides on Roe v. Wade in the coming weeks.
DeSantis believes that a decision is imminent, and it could come by June.
“And I think this was a huge breach of kind of their protocol and everything in terms of how they're, how they're doing it. And so I would imagine we'd probably get something into this month and into June and we will take a look at it that time,” concluded DeSantis.
Left-wing activists have taken to the streets and social media to express their dissatisfaction with the contents of the leaked judicial opinion.
DeSantis was recently called a “sick man” by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D), who believes that if the landmark abortion decision is abolished, DeSantis would surely sign an abortion ban in Florida.
Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D), who is running for governor, also believes that DeSantis would call a special session to abolish abortion rights.
If the Supreme Court decides against Roe v. Wade, abortions will then be left up to the individual states.
