DeSantis Approves Biggest Tax Relief in Florida History

Share

Ocala— Florida Governor Ron Desantis (R-FL) held a press conference where he bashed the policies of the Biden Administration, but also signed the biggest tax relief bill in the history of Florida into law.

Gov. DeSantis began by paralleling Florida with the rest of the nation, claiming, "We actually beat New York for foreign tourism every year and we've been better than the national average in unemployment."  The governor then added, "So in April alone, we had 750 million just above estimates come into Florida. So by the end of June, when they look they close the book on this fiscal year, you know, we're going to end the fiscal year most likely with our largest one definitely with our largest surplus in the history of Florida."

Meanwhile, DeSantis firmly believes that Florida is one of the few states that manages to dodge the "Faucian dystopia."  The governor wanted to sign HB 7071 into law to, "help mitigate the harm that's been caused by this inflationary spiral."  DeSantis added that this bill, "This is actually the largest tax relief in the history of the state of Florida. $1.2 billion tax relief."

The tax relief will apply to, "critical needs," such as, "gas, diapers, disaster supplies, falls for skilled trades, recreational activities, you name it, and so families are going to be able to save for things that really matter for that. So we're doing diaper clothes and shoes for babies and toddlers will be tax free for one year beginning July 1."

"Children's Books will be tax free for three months starting May 14, and that'll go through August 14 leading right into the school year.  14-day back-to-school tax holiday we'll run from July 25 through August 7. We're getting 200 million in gas tax holiday so that'll reduce the fuel tax on August on October 1 25 cents a gallon when you look at the fuel," said Governor DeSantis.

Ron DeSantis who himself has two young daughters got a rise out of the Marion County crowd after Madison and Mamie took the stage where the governor swore the diaper tax relief, "was the legislators idea, I wasn't doing it for self interest."
