During Senator Marco Rubio’s roundtable discussion with members of the Colombian community in Broward County to talk about their native Colombia, Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo warned that Democrats or Socialists could use new COVID infections to make the case for implementing another across-the-board mail-in ballot system.
“There is a trap there,” said Mayor Bovo about the use of COVID to call for mail-in ballots.
Bovo later expounded on his warning, saying that a “ruse” was in play to allow a “hyper-Socialist narrative” to start once more, a mail-in ballot system across the nation.
Bovo called vote-by-mail a “fraud” that compromised the 2020 presidential election.
“We live in a country that gives everybody the opportunity to vote and this ruse of limiting people’s ability to vote, or access to vote, is to me a hyper-Socialist narrative to start implementing vote by mail across the country,” said Bovo. “And the biggest proponent of fraud that can be in any election is the vote by mail—it’s total control of who votes in somebody’s home and to me we saw it play a big role in 2020, not just in the local election, but we saw it in the national election.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis last year signed a bill into law that would restrict voting by mail and the use of drop boxes. That law recently saw a federal judge strike several key components of the measure,
