The Rubio team is drawing attention to an activist that, at the end of last year, campaigned with Florida Rep. Val Demings (D). After calling for Demings to denounce the support of James Carville (D) over comments directed at people that are unvaccinated, the Rubio team is now questioning Demings’ welcomed support of Amy Siskind “disturbing.”
In September the former Orlando police chief took part in a campaign event with Amy Siskind, an activist and writer who authored the book The List: A Week-by-Week Reckoning of Trump’s First Year.
Siskind hosted Demings in her Mamaroneck, New York home. In early March of 2021, Siskind also joined Demings in a virtual discussion, commenting on issues related to domestic terrorism.
Siskind’s support is called into question by the Rubio team because Siskind has called the GOP “America’s version of the Taliban.”
Taking issue with this, Elizabeth Gregory, the communications director for Marco Rubio for Senate, released a statement, calling into question whether Demings shares the same sentiment that Siskind shares.
“Val Demings’ decision to campaign alongside someone who compares Republicans to the Taliban is deeply disturbing,” said Gregory, adding that “Floridians deserve to know if she agrees with Siskind.”
The comments from the Rubio team come the same week Rep. Demings released a video on social media, highlighting that her “people powered campaign” would be taking a trip to “every corner of Florida.”
Similar to state Senator Annette Taddeo (D), who’s currently venturing through every district of Florida in her Believe Tour to defeat Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), Demings took a video in Key West, captioning the video with “I’m traveling to every corner of Florida to know who I’m fighting for.”
Last year, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) called Siskind a member of Demings’ “inner circle,” which they also called “radical, Socialist, and wrong for Florida.”
