Democrats Criticize DeSantis for Balancing Work and Family

Share

After Fox News reported that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took a few days off of his busy schedule to accompany his wife, First Lady Casey DeSantis, to one of her cancer treatments, The Floridian has learned that this was not the first time the governor has taken personal time to be with his wife and family as she battles breast cancer.

According to Gov. DeSantis’s press secretary Christina Pushaw, who confirmed that the governor went to the cancer treatment last Wednesday, personal or campaign events would not be listed on the official executive schedule.

Like most fathers, DeSantis is trying to balance a full workload, a sick wife, and three children under the age of 6,

“Cancer treatment is a private matter so it’s not something I would usually be able to talk about as an official spokesperson, but the First Lady has been courageous to share her diagnosis and inspire others.” Stated Pushaw. The governor has gone to treatment with her before; it just wouldn’t be on the public schedule because it’s a personal appointment. We are all proud of her strength and grace, and it’s admirable that the governor balances all his work for the people of Florida with his commitment to being there for his wife and kids.

Criticism from Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and just about every Democratic lawmaker in Florida, for not being in the public eye as the Omicron variant spread throughout the state.

Prior to his “vacation” as some Progressive or “Left-Wing’ politicians have dubbed his few days off, DeSantis was still holding public events around the state, pushing COVID-19 treatments.

According to Pushaw, DeSantis’ public schedule, which will continue to include his addressing of the ongoing pandemic, will resume next week.

"Anyone pushing that could have easily seen the public schedule and seen that he's taking calls and meetings this past week," Lamb added. "Not having public events does not = 'vacation.'"
