Florida Democrats Upset Over Salazar's Pictures with Castro and Maduro

Share

Florida Democrats are up in arms over a congressional office picture Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar recently posted that shows her sitting with the late-Fidel Castro and current Venezuelan strong man, Dictator Nicolas Maduro.

Democratic political consultant Christian Ulvert tweeted," Where’s the outrage??? A member of Congress dignifies the Capitol, our symbol of democracy, with pictures of Castro and Maduro. Que offensive!  (How offensive) It’s shameful and a disgrace to our community. She owes an apology."

Janelle Perez, a former congressional candidate now running for the state Senate, was also outraged by Rep. Salazar's Washington office pictures.

"Are those pictures of Castro and Maduro? You are the first and only Congresswoman to have her meetings with dictators proudly displayed on her office walls. I get it, you just say that you fight communism to convince the voters," stated Perez.

Rep. Salazar has been an outspoken critic against the Castro-influence communism in the Western Hemisphere and even won her 2020 election over "Pragmatic Socialist" Rep. Donna Shalala (D) campaigning against the Democratic Socialism agenda the Democratic Party embraced during the presidential campaign cycle.

In looking closer to all of the images hanging on Salazar's wall, aside from the pictures of her interviewing Fidel Castro and Nicolas Maduro, Salazar is also seen interviewing other former world leaders like Colombia President Alvaro Uribe and Chilean President Agusto Pinochet Ugarte.

Salazar told The Floridian that the images were of her interviewing world leaders when she worked as an international journalist for Telemundo.

Salazar added that she interviewed Castro in 1996 and Maduro in 2015.

This week, Salazar said that Hispanics have woken up and will be voting Republican.

"That is why we are waking up, not only that, one reason I am in Congress is to say to my people, the Hispanics, that the Dems, the Democratic Party, unfortunately, has been playing political football with us for the past 30 years," said Salazar.
