Tension continues to rise between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and President Joe Biden (D). At first, both were at odds regarding mask mandates, vaccine mandates and vaccine passports. Now both appear to be at odds regarding monoclonal antibody treatments. In an announcement shared by Friends of Ron DeSantis, the Governor accused the Biden Administration of “targeting Floridians” in a manner he feels could “cost Floridians their lives.”
Calling the move “disgusting,” the Florida Governor shared that “Biden has decided to have the federal government seize the supply and control the distribution of the life-saving monoclonal antibody treatments.”
The Governor, who recently urged Floridians to get vaccinated to protect themselves from COVID-19, has praised the use of monoclonal antibody treatments.
After testing positive for COVID-19, Florida Rep. Darren Soto (D) shared that he himself was undergoing monoclonal antibody treatment. Soto is vaccinated and is considered a “breakthrough infection,” and he wrote on Twitter that the treatment was an effort “to further reduce potential symptoms.”
In announcing the Biden Administration’s decision, Governor DeSantis commented that “this has resulted in the Biden Administration slashing the amount of antibody treatments provided to Florida by more than 50%.”
DeSantis praised the Sunshine States’ efforts, noting that “Florida demonstrated leadership as we were the first state in the nation to focus on early treatments for COVID-19 by setting up 25 treatment sites for monoclonal antibody treatments across Florida.” However, “instead of acknowledging Florida was right to raise awareness about early treatments and to make these treatments more readily available,” DeSantis lamented that “Biden has decided to make this about politics even if it means lives lost.”
What the Governor believes Biden is doing is “punishing Floridians and residents of other Republican-led states because we refuse to bend the knee to Joe Biden’s ridiculous unconstitutional edicts.”
“Lives are at stake,” Warned DeSantis.
