Wasserman Schultz Says 'Failed Leadership' is a 'Chronic GOP Problem’

Share

After a Florida judge ruled that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R) order banning local school boards from implementing mask mandates is unconstitutional, a number of Democrats have praised the ruling and criticized the governor. Ahead of the 2022 midterm election,  Gov. DeSantis has feuded with President Joe Biden (D) over COVID-19 restrictions, and it appears that Florida Republicans are looking to move past the ruling.  Aside from that, Democrats continue to direct criticism at Florida leadership with Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) commenting on social media that the state is facing “a chronic GOP problem.”

After the ruling, Florida state Senator Lauren Book (D) was vocal on social media, praising the ruling and slamming DeSantis. Commenting that “the Governor overstepped his constitutional authority,” she also argued that DeSantis’ order is a “politically driven power grab” that “put the health & safety of millions of FL children, families, & communities at risk.”

Though the GOP has voiced that they do not agree with mandates or another lockdown, Florida Republicans are opting to move past the debacle.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) said that both sides of the aisle engaging in debates regarding mask mandates is a “waste of time,” and Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) commented that he doesn’t “believe the government should be mandating things.” Moreover, the three House Republicans in Miami have not provided comments after Miami-Dade County’s School Board voted 7-1 in favor of a mask mandate in public schools.

Florida Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R) just commented that “that’s a state issue” in an email to the Miami Herald.

The DeSantis Administration expressed that it was “immensely disappointed” at Leon County  Circuit Judge John Cooper’s decision, but the criticism against DeSantis continues to mount.

Florida Rep. Wasserman Schultz took to Twitter to share her thoughts, commenting that the “failed leadership” regarding the COVID-19 pandemic extends past the Governor, calling it “a chronic GOP problem.”
