Trump Sued by Capitol Police Over 'Election Lies'

Share

More than 7 months after the January 6th riot on Capitol Hill,  the issue is now more alive than ever.  Capitol Police are now taking action and suing former President Donald Trump (R) and allies over 'election lies' and instigating the events of January 6th.

According to the New York Times, Trump and 20 other people associated with right-wing groups are tied to the lawsuit that has been filed.  In this case, the plaintiffs, Capitol Police, are basing their case off of a violation of the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871.

The New York Times claims that the legal precedent serves to stop groups from interfering with Congressional affairs adding that those who attended the riot were "bias-motivated" terrorists.

January 6th has been a winning issue for Democrats, leading moderates like Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) to capitalize on their middle-of-the-road appeal, being placed on the congressional committee to investigate the events.

In recent months, Democrats have flipped the script on "Defunding the Police" and heavily backing Capitol Police officers with more funding and even expansions of their offices.

State Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R-32) has recently worked on legislation to curb Capitol Police from establishing an office in the Sunshine State, arguing that Democrats are simply attempting to federalize the police force.

Sabatini will be challenging Murphy for her Congressional seat this election cycle, and their polarizing views of Capitol Police and January 6th in rhetoric and policy should give Floridians a good idea of where the people's convictions truly lie.
