When “lifelong Republican” and Gov. Ron DeSantis appointee Ron Filipkowski submitted his resignation after Florida Department of Health data scientist-turned whistleblower, Rebekah Jones’s home was raided and subsequently arrested, Florida Democrats and statewide media outlets portrayed the resignation as a huge blow to the governor.
It was considered a big blow to DeSantis, not just because he was an appointee, but because he was a former Marine and a “lifelong Republican.”
But just how much of a staunch Republican was Filipowski?
According to Filipkowski’s Twitter profile, the former Marine has made a political about-face, and is now a “Defense Attorney & Democrat” and a “General Counsel for the Woke Mob.”
Filipkowski’s seemingly overnight transformation from GOP attorney to racial injustice or “Woke Mob” hero is quite impressive. Filipkowski's Twitter feed is filled with anti-Republican, anti-Trump, and anti-DeSantis tweets.
As you can remember, Filipkowski took issue with the search warrant affidavit state law enforcement officers used to gain access to Jones’ home. Jones was arrested after computers and phones were seized.
Flipkowski said in his resignation letter that DeSantis's COVID-19 response was "reckless and irresponsible" and said that he stayed on the commission because the issue was medical in nature, and not legal.
During the execution of the search warrant, Jones was caught on police bodycam video lying about police pointed their guns at her children.
Jones set up a video inside the home where she was heard accusing police of pointing guns at her kids.
“Do not point that gun at my children,” stated Jones. “He just pointed a gun at my children. He just pointed a gun at my children. “
But unlike in her video, the police bodycam video catches Jones saying, “He’s pointing a gun at the stairs, there are children up there” when she was speaking to an officer outside the lens of her camera.
Jones has been charged with a third-degree felony.
