Biden Told To Stop 'Cheap Statements' and 'Empty Political Signaling on Cuba

Share

Libertad! Libertad! Libertad! This was the chant heard last weekend at another rally in Miami in support of the Cuban protests against the Communist regime in Cuba It’s been three weeks since the protests broke out and while both Democratic and Republican legislators have shown full support for the protestors and their plight against the oppressive Cuban regime, outside of putting in place a few sanctions, President Joe Biden has done virtually nothing except push out "cheap statements."

President Biden has said that he was considering beaming in internet service to Cuba so that residents could see the world's response to the protests and disseminate information within the island to themselves and to the outside world.

But because President Biden has been silent on the issue, Cuban-American leaders like Senator Marco Rubio and Rep. Carlos Gimenez have called the president’s leadership “weak,” and now Rep. Gimenez is telling him that Americans don’t need any more “cheap statements and empty political signaling.

President Biden, it’s time for you to step up your leadership and support the freedom fighters in our hemisphere. No more cheap statements and empty political signaling. The people of #Cuba, #Venezuela, and #Nicaragua are waiting for you,” tweeted Rep. Gimenez.

Last week, Senator Rubio told The Floridian that former President Donald Trump already had a plan in place to send in the internet signal to Cuba.

“But I think if he was in office right now, we’d be well on its way towards internet access,” Rubio said. “I think you would see internet towers set up in Guantanamo, I think you would see our embassy openly providing Wi-Fi and be relayed across the island, I think you would see radio and TV Marti, turn its signal on—use its capabilities to broadcast into the island.”
