Murphy Doubles Down on Venezuela, Promotes Freedom

As the Venezuelan Humanitarian crisis continues to unfold, Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) has added to her history of defending democracy in the socialist regime and has doubled down on her efforts to promote freedom in Venezuela.

Murphy who has personally experienced the dangers of overpowering governments, fleeing from Vietnam as a child, has not only spoken out against Maduro but has also attempted in the past to open up other nations like Cuba.

Back in 2019, Murphy introduced a measure that would increase Venezuelan funding by $3 million to help defend democracy in Venezuela and was successfully passed by the House.

Now with tensions on the rise again in the region, the House of Representativs is now increasing funding to Venezuela up to $50 million from the previous $33 million Murphy fought for.

As announced on her Twitter this week, the funds would be allocated in efforts to "support democracy, rule of law, & independent media in Maduro's Venezuela.":

Murphy has a proven record of bipartisan efforts, receiving the Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award, earning a 100% rating by the US Chamber of Commerce.

And with election season just around the corner, Murphy's anti-socialism rhetoric may help the "Blue Dog Democrat," Congresswoman curb accusations of extremism from her rising star conservative challenger state Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R-32).

Murphy has accused her challenger Sabatini, who has now been endorsed by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Roger Stone as an "extremist Trump supporter," while Sabatini has championed the opposite as Murphy's voting record according to ProPublica aligns with self-proclaimed Democratic Socialists Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) over 90% of the time.

Either way, District 7 looks to make for the most highly anticipated congressional bid in the state this mid-term cycle.
