As major U.S. cities continue to report drastically higher crime rates, U.S. Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) has called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for downplaying the recent spike in crime as "hysteria."
In a recent press release. Rep. Mast disclosed that 3 months of 2021 saw an 18% spike in murders from the same time last year, adding that 27 ambush-styled attacks on law enforcement, police attacks have climbed 50%.
Perhaps the most startling crime statistic is from the city of Portland, Oregon alone, where homicides have increased by 553%, 58% in Atlanta, 37% in Philadelphia, and 22% in Los Angeles respectively compared to 2020.
Let's not forget about the city of Chicago has seen at least one person killed every day.
Mast states, "There's a reason AOC is trying to downplay the lawlessness that has spiked across America," adding that it is "a direct result of her far-left policies trying to Defund the Police!"
With the staggering statistics not going down anytime soon, the White House took a different stance as Press Secretary Jen Psaki blamed Republicans for wanting to defund the police.
The GOP has since fired back, calling her claims "false," even providing a list of what they call "DEMOCRAT-RUN cities that are defunding the police.":
"Enough lies. Crime is surging on Biden’s watch as Democrats across the country push to defund the police. But Biden is showing he doesn’t have the backbone to stand-up to the radical left, and would rather play callous politics instead."—RNC
