Florida’s 2022 Congressional Shuffle

With Florida getting one new congressional seat during the redistricting process, and with Republicans having the task of redrawing all of the district boundaries later this year, Democrats have begun to make moves to help preserve their political careers.

Rep. Val Demings (D), whose seat may not see much change, is expected to run for Senate against Sen. Marco Rubio, which in my opinion, is a play to condition herself for a 2024 run against Sen. Rick Scott. Rep. Demings won’t beat Sen. Rubio.

Reps. Charlie Crist and Stephanie Murphy have the most to worry about going into redistricting. Republicans want to take back these two seats they lost a couple of elections ago, so Crist running for governor and Murphy also expected to run for the U.S. Senate, are both sound moves. They have no other choice if they want to survive in politics.
