Democratic Poll Warns GOP ‘Defining’ 2022 Midterm Election

Share

The upcoming 2022 midterm election will likely decide what party will control Congress. President Donald Trump (R) has already announced that he will be heavily involved in the election as a number of incumbents are expected to be “primaried” by challengers that are “pro-Trump”

While this has led to Republican infighting that even contributed to Rep. Liz Cheney (R) being ousted from her leadership position within the House GOP, a new poll from Greenberg Research, a Democratic firm, has unveiled that Republican voters have not only aligned with the 45th President of the United States, but they are also heavily engaged in midterm politics. The results also show that this engagement only intensifies when it comes to battleground states, which includes Florida. Ultimately, as expressed by a memo from Greenberg Research, “Trump’s engaged party” is “defining the battle for 2022.”

The results of the poll indicated that 68% of Republican voters have the highest level of interest in the midterm election compared to 57% of Democrats.

“We were also surprised by how much Donald Trump’s loyalist party is totally consolidated at this early point in its 2022 voting and how engaged it is,” the memo informs. It details that “they have pulled back from historic presidential year levels: the percent scoring 10, the highest level of interest in the election, has fallen from 84 to 68%.” However, the memo also notes that “Democrats’ engagement fell from 85% to 57%,” and “Republicans are following their political theater much more closely than are Democrats – producing an 11-point gap.”

Though Democrats hold control of the House, the Senate and the White House, the midterm election historically does not yield positive results for the party that’s in control of the White House.

“Democrats and Joe Biden need to show that they are helping people in historic ways, and it will all be put at risk if Trump’s Republican Party retakes the Congress and reverses the gains,” the memo warns.
