The culmination of the 2020 election resulted in Republican infighting regarding the future of the party. Across the country, GOP members have also argued over what the party should be prioritizing while moving ahead. In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis (R) announced that the remaining COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted, but some GOP members believe that attention should be shifted away from whether or not Floridians should be wearing a mask to “Biden’s radical policies” because they are a “greater threat to liberty/freedom.”

On Twitter, Cesar Conda (R), Senator Marco Rubio’s former Chief of Staff and a former Domestic Policy Advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney (R), expressed his disappointment with the GOP and what they are prioritizing ahead of the midterm election. “I don’t get the GOP fixation on masks,” he shared, adding that “the greater threat to liberty/freedom is Biden’s radical policies.”

Conda detailed that President Joe Biden’s (D) “adding trillions to the debt,” and Biden “would raise the tax rate on successful small businesses to 43.4%,” “he would tax our capital gains at a higher rate than CCP does theirs.”

Responding to an RNC Research Twitter post, Conda expressed that the GOP should focus on Biden and his policies. The RNC Research post said that “anti-Science Biden seems determined to confuse the American people” because he “doesn’t wear a mask with a nonagenarian” but instead he “breaks CDC guidance to put his mask back on while outside leaving as an ‘extra precaution.’”

The criticism comes as tension between the United States and the Communist Party of China has increased, and GOP lawmakers have criticized Biden over his relations with the CCP. Marco Rubio himself has called Biden a threat American when it comes to China, saying late last year that "When Joe Biden was Vice President, and for years before that as a Senator, he was a full-throated supporter of this idea [to] let China deindustrialize America.”
