FL CFO Patronis Backs Consumer Protection House Bill

Share

Last month, State Rep. Chuck Clemons Sr. (R-21) proposed HB 717, a bill to extend consumer protections in the state of Florida.  In order to do so, the bill would impose additional limitations on consumer reporting agencies in efforts to empower Florida consumers.

These practices would include, but are not limited to, "protecting Floridians from unnecessary fees, working to eliminate fraud and scams, and ensuring Florida's insurance markets aren't flooded with unnecessary litigation."

Luckily, Florida's Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis (R) is big on protecting consumers from other threats, as he has a proven record of tackling big tech in Florida.

Patronis has recently been more vocal about pursuing consumer protection revisions with this new legislative session, claiming that protecting consumers is his, "mission", and the Consumer Protection Bill was at the top of his priorities.

Patronis issued a statement today in which he promised that the Consumer Protection Bill would, "ensure Florida families are better informed of their rights, protects them from being nickeled and dimed by unnecessary fees, and aids in our fraud-fighting efforts to shield Floridians from costly fraud and scams."

Patronis characterized the bill's passage as, "vital" in bouncing back from the economic hardships brought with COVID-19.

The CFO then extended his thanks to Florida House Speaker, Chris Sprowls (R-65), Rep. Nick DiCeglie (R-66), and the bill's original author, Rep. Clemons, for, "spearheading this vital legislation."
