In what can be perceived as a poke to the eye of his potential 2022 Democratic gubernatorial challengers and everyone of his detractors, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) made good on his promise to fly the flag at half-staff in honor of the late Conservative "legend" and icon, radio show host Rush Limbaugh.
Agricultural Commissioner Nikki Fried, who took issue with Gov. DeSantis call for flags to be lowered for Limbaugh and said that she would not lower the flags throughout her state agency because she would not honor a bigot and conspiracy theorist.
Commissioner Fried questioned why DeSantis would honor Limbaugh, who she called a bigot, and not recognize former civil rights leader and Rep. John Lewis, who passed away in 2020, and who in the past propagated "hateful" and divisive, and in some instances, racially insensitive rhetoric.
Fried is expected to announce her challenge to DeSantis shortly after the upcoming legislative session concludes in May.
Just yesterday, DeSantis order the lowering of the flag to half-staff honoring Deputy Michael Magli who died this week.
