This week, President Trump (R) announced that Morocco and Israel have agreed to normalize relations, which marks the fourth Arab-Israel agreement in four months to strike a peace agreement. What this entails is that Morocco and Israel will be restoring diplomatic relations, and this includes the immediate reopening of liaison offices in Tel Aviv and Rabat. Moreover, the embassies will be opened. U.S. officials noted that this would also include joint overflight rights for airlines.

In response to the news, Florida Democrats welcomed the news, and one Florida lawmaker that shared his excitement of what is to come is Florida Rep. Darren Soto (D)

“We applaud Morocco for becoming the 4th Arab-majority country to recognize Israel in recent months,” Soto said, adding that “this is another major milestone on the road to peace.”

This week also brought great news to the Florida Democrat as he was elected to Chairman of the Future Forum Caucus for the incoming 117th Congress

Sharing the news on social media, Soto commented that this was made possible because of voter engagement in the 2020 election

“Young Americans have proven that they have the power to make a difference,” Soto expressed, noting that “from record voter turnout in the 2020 election to ongoing protests against racial injustice, young people in our country are making their voices heard, and Congress is listening.”

Calling the Caucus “a group of vibrant young Members of Congress who will amplify the needs of Millenials and Generation Z,” Soto expressed that he looked forward to working “with a Democratic House Majority and a Biden-Harris Administration... to engage our youth in the democratic process, now and for the future.”

In other news, Soto was named Whip of the all-Democrat Hispanic Caucus in the U.S. House of Representative.

“I am humbled that my colleagues have entrusted me with the position of CHC Whip, a position previously held by some of my personal heroes,” said Rep. Soto.
