Veteran political operative Roger Stone has picked a side in the Republican congressional primary race in Florida’s 23rd district. Stone has told The Floridian than he is endorsing Navy veteran Carla Spalding’s bid to unseated Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D).
In an exclusive statement to The Floridian, Stone used the commutation of his prison sentence to take a swipe at Rep. Wasserman Schultz over her involvement in the Awan brothers theft case, calling the Florida congresswoman an “accessory to a felony in their crimes.”
Stone also reminded Americans that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) under the leadership of Rep. Wasserman Schultz, “cheated” 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, and handed the nomination over to Secretary Hillary Clinton.
Here is Stone’s statement in support of Carla Spalding:
“I am proud to endorse Carla Spalding for Congress in the 23rd District. As a veteran and a nurse, she has a keen understanding of the problems our country is facing. Carla Spalding will be a practical and hard-working member of Congress and will represent the interests of her district rather than representing a completely partisan political agenda.
While I am certain that there are those that will be critical of my endorsement because of my temporary status as a wrongly convicted felon, I would point out that I am appealing the unjust conviction and sentence in my case in which I was clearly a political target and did not receive a fair trial. Contrast that with Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz who even after being informed by the Capitol Hill police of the active investigation of the Awan brothers who were ultimately charged with theft of both data and money, from members of the US Congress allowed these perpetrators continued access to the US House of Representatives computer system making Congresswoman Wasserman-Schultz accessory to a felony in their crimes.
That Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was not charged with this serious crime while I was charged for the process crime of "lying to Congress" when the statements I made to Congress were immaterial, hiding no underlying crime and therefore I lacked the intent required to be in violation of the law, is a perfect example of our two-tiered justice system in which powerful political elites are not prosecuted for serious crimes while supporters of the President are subject to legal persecution.
It was under Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz who was serving as Chairwoman that the Democratic National Committee cheated Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic Presidential contest. This should be offensive to progressives as well as all Americans who believe in fair play and the honest process of nominating candidates for high public office.
Carla Spalding is a person of extraordinary integrity and unlimited energy. She is precisely the kind of person who will put aside all partisan inclinations to be a true representative of the people of her district. She has my enthusiastic endorsement.”
