The House of Representatives has passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, the legislative measure that requires proof of citizenship for anyone who registers to vote in federal elections,  by a vote count of 220-208.

Representative Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) was among the many who voted in favor, saying after the vote, "The SAVE Act is straightforward: Americans vote in American elections, period."

"American citizenship is an honor, something that you earn or are blessed to be born into. It’s common sense that only Americans should vote in American elections," Rep. Haridopolos continued, adding, "The SAVE Act reinforces this fundamental idea by ensuring that illegal immigrants—who have already broken the law by entering the country unlawfully—are not able to vote in our elections."
