For Conservatives, Liberal Enviro Groups Are Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

Until proven otherwise, Florida is a red state. Republicans have dominated Tallahassee since the late 90s, and in 2016, President Trump won Florida. We have a Republican Governor, a Republican-led Legislature, and even cities like Jacksonville and Miami Dade County are led by Republicans. Conservatives are happy about this.

So, it’s no surprise that every year that ends in an even number, left-leaning environmental activist groups appear to do their best impression of Republicans while throwing their support behind Republican candidates. They think it will give them credibility in the Republican-dominated halls of power.

But despite these groups’ attempts to look conservative, the facts appear to show these groups have little interest in personal freedom, pro-growth economic policies, or defending constitutional rights. In fact, the long-standing record shows they continually support interests that counter pro-American and business policies

Here are just a few examples.

In 2018, the Everglades Trust endorsed now-Governor Ron DeSantis. After this endorsement, the group’s liberal activists came out against the endorsement. A 2018 Gainesville Sun story noted that when the endorsement was made, “environmentalists were aghast.”

After taking office, many of these same environmental groups, which associate with George Soros groups, have attacked Governor DeSantis over his conservative policies, including a controversial toll road bill he signed in 2019.

Speaking of George Soros, the Everglades Trust, Captains for Clean Water, Everglades Foundation, and Audubon all routinely associate with the Soros-linked Center for Biological Diversity, which has sued the Trump administration more than any other group in America (200+ times).

 

According to conservative state representative Anthony Sabatini o earlier this year “this level of court abuse may be a new low for the Never Trump fringe.”

In what was one of the most contentious moments of Congressman Brian Mast’s political career so far, conservatives have publicly objected to Mast’s repeated involvement with the environmental lobby, which takes cues from George Soros.

The Everglades Trust and Everglades Foundation, the two environmental special interest giants in Florida, are controlled by liberal out-of-state hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones, who has been called the “George Soros of Florida Politics.” Jones’ involvement with liberal Hollywood media mogul and sex abuser Harvey Weinstein has been widely noted.

While it may seem convenient for Republicans to associate with left-leaning special interests, our state is no better for it. Many people move to Florida to escape the liberal policies of high taxation and regulation. These groups do nothing but try to make our conservative paradise just like everywhere else.
