Pelosi: Obama didn't need congressional authorization, but Trump does

Share

Republicans are mocking Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats for their apparent hypocrisy over presidential authority to use U.S. military force against a foreign power or terrorist group, or threat to the U.S.

In a 2011 press conference, then-leader Nancy Pelosi (D) was asked to confirm her statement that President Barack Obama did not need "any authorization from Congress" to attack Libya. Leader Pelosi answered with a firm "yes."

House Democrats voted on and passed a non-binding Iran War Powers resolution to prevent President Trump from conducting any further military operation against the Iranian regime without Congress first approving.
