FL Rep. Ana Maria Rodriguez lands Sen. Anitere Flores backing

Wait, didn’t we just report that a sitting state Senator in Florida has endorsed a state Representative running for that senator’s seat?

Senator Anitere Flores (R), who is term-limited out of office, is backing Rep. Ana Maria Rodriguez (R) to succeed her in Miami’s Senate District 39.

Earlier today we reported that another term-limited Senate President Bill Galvano (R), who represents Senate District 21 on the west coast of the state, had endorsed former state Rep. Jim Boyd (R).

Senator Anitere Flores today endorsed Ana Maria Rodriguez for Senate District 39. The seat is currently held by Flores who is term-limited in 2020.

The announcement came from the Florida Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee (FRSCC), who have been busy little bees highlighting its members and candidates as the 2020 election cycle kicks off.

Here is what the FRCC press stated:

“Ana Maria Rodriguez understands the unique challenges and opportunities facing the hardworking people of South Florida,” said Flores. “As a working mother and a leader in our community, she will be the strong advocate we need in Tallahassee.”

Ana Maria Rodriguez is a member of the Florida Legislature representing the state's 105th House district, which includes parts of Broward, Collier, and Miami-Dade counties. Prior to her election to the Florida House of Representatives, Rodriguez served on the Doral City Council.=

“I am honored to have the support of an incredible South Florida leader like Senator Flores,” said Rodriguez, who entered the race in July. “The strength of the team we are building will ensure our reach across the district as we begin this very important conversation with the people of South Florida.”

Rodriguez attended Florida International University where she earned a degree in Communications in 1999 and Nova Southeastern University where she earned an MS in Leadership in 2009. She lives in Doral with her husband and young children.
