With the news that Georgia and Alabama had signed into law anti-abortion legislation, Americans expressed just how divisive the legislations are to them. While some praised the bills and said that this was the right move forward, others blasted lawmakers and said that the laws are proof that there is a war on women.
President Trump was largely mum as the states passed their legislation, but he has now broken his silence. However, he’s expressing that he doesn’t fully agree with the laws the states have passed.
Taking to twitter to comment on the controversial topic, President Trump told his followers that “as most people know, and for those who would like to know, I am strongly Pro-Life, with the three exceptions – Rape, Incest and protecting the Life of the mother – the same position taken by Ronald Reagan.”

One controversial aspect of the Alabama bill is that it forbids abortions in nearly all cases, but the Georgia bill does not forbid it concerning the health of the mother.
President Trump still maintained that Republicans need to remain united when it comes to their pro-life views.
On Twitter, the President detailed that “if we are foolish and do not stay UNITED as one, all of our hard fought gains for Life can, and will, rapidly disappear!”
Utah Senator Mitt Romney (R), who’s been critical of President Trump, joined the President in speaking out on the bills, commenting that he thinks “that there ought to be exceptions.”
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Romney further explained that he is “pro-life, but there ought to be exceptions for rape and incest and where the life of the mother is at risk.”
Since the announcement that Georgia and Alabama had signed anti-abortion legislation and that Mississippi would follow, 2020 Presidential candidates have slammed the laws, asserting that they would take counter measures should they be elected.
Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders (D), during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” expressed that “if you’re asking me would I ever appoint a Supreme Court Justice who does not believe in defending Roe vs. Wade, who does not believe that a woman has the right to control her own body, I will never do that.”
