Scott says "there is no such thing as a sanctuary city"

The New York Times has reported that during his recent trip to Calexico, California, President Donald Trump allegedly told Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan that he would pardon him if he was ever jailed for breaking and arrested for preventing illegal immigrants entry into the U.S.

Democrats were quick to pounce on the story.

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, who is pushing for continued investigations into the Trump administration, told CNN’s Jake Tapper this past Sunday that this was just “another instance of the president’s contempt for law.”

One of Trump’s staunches supporters and friends in the U.S. Congress, Florida Sen. Rick Scott (R), also appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning program with Jake Tapper to discuss the president’s alleged promise to McAleenan.

When asked if he believed Trump had the right to break the law, Scott simply said that he felt the president is “very frustrated” because the wasn’t being secured because “Democrats are stopping” the border patrol from doing their job of securing the U.S. southern border.

“We have to comply with every law Everybody does. There is no such thing as a sanctuary city, you don’t get to pick and choose a law,” said Scott.

Sanctuary Cities

Trump said that  he has the “absolute legal right” to send detained illegal immigrants and transport them “sanctuary cites.”

“You don’t get to pick and choose which laws you comply with.,” said Scott, adding that Americans “don’t want illegal immigration,” instead want “legal immigration.”
