Rubio "doesn't understand" Trump's attacks against McCain

President Donald Trump’s recent remarks against deceased Senator John McCain, has divided the Republican Party, as there appears to be a faction of the party that “loathes” McCain, this according to NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd.

Todd made the assertion when asking Florida Senator Marco Rubio if he knew what portion of the Republican party loathed or hated former U.S. Senator John McCain.

Rubio responded by saying that he didn’t understand that particularly feeling about his former friend and colleague, adding that he did believe McCain “should be singled out for these attacks” by the president, or anyone.

First of all, John McCain is not here to defend himself… I don’t get it. I don’t understand it. I didn’t agree with John McCain on everything, so what?

But I honored and I respected the service to our country and his time in the senate. I always felt he did things he felt passionate about and worked hard on those things, whether you agree with him or not. I knew why he was doing it, it wasn’t for some nefarious purpose. He was a man that was deeply influenced by his experience, and what he went through.

I was an admirer of McCain as a man, and a lot of things he did in the United States Senate. I don’t understand that feeling about him, and I don’t think frankly that he’s the person that should be singled out for these attacks. I don’t get it, I don’t understand it, and frankly, I don’t understand how it furthers anything in terms of what we are trying to get done.”-Sen. Marco Rubio (R)

Rubio, Senate Republicans, and President Trump, all took issue with McCain after he appeared on the senate floor and voted with Democrats against the measure to “repeal and replace” the controversial Obamacare law.

President Trump recently pointed to the perceived betrayal by McCain when the opportunity to repeal the Affordable Care Act was presented for a vote, saying that the late-senator committed to voting “yes,” but then voted “no.”

“[McCain] said two hours before he was voting to repeal and replace [Obamacare], and then he voted thumbs-down, badly hurting the Republican party, badly hurting our nation, and hurting many sick people who desperately wanted good affordable health care.”-President Trump in Ohio
