Billionaire sexual offender's plea deal questioned

Democrats and Republicans have come together to call for an investigation into the “sweetheart deal” billionaire sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein received to avoid jail time, after authorities amassed evidenced linking him to numerous alleged sexual assaults against teenage girls.

According to the deal, Epstein, a prominent Democrat donor, agreed to only plead guilty to two state charges of soliciting prostitution, sign up to the sex offender registry and pay monies to his alleged victims.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) appeared on CNN to excoriate then-U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta for giving Epstein a pass, and to call for authorities to look into how the highly questionable deal came to be.

When asked about potential donors and friends being exposed, if the names of the men who took part in Epstein’s sexual actions against girls were released, Wasserman Schultz sternly stated that she didn’t care.

“I do not care. I have a fifteen-year-old daughter. It could have been her, or anyone of our teenage daughters. There were middle school age girls who he trafficked and sexually abused” and passed off to his wealthily friends.”- Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Wasserman Schultz said that she wanted the deal “fully investigated” first, then have Acosta held accountable, adding that “if that leads to his resignation, then that’s exactly what should happen.”

The congresswoman and mother of three reminded CNN’s Jake Tapper that a prosecutor’s job is to “fully investigate and fully prosecute “cases, and if Epstein was properly prosecuted, the “serial abuser” would “have likely, potentially gotten a life sentence.”

Wasserman Schultz is part of 34 members of the U.S. Congress, including Florida Senator Marco Rubio, to call for a probe into the Epstein case.

The deal only called for Epstein to serve 13 months in county jail, and “was given permission to leave most of the day under a liberal work release program that wasn’t granted to other convicted sex offenders,” according to the Miami Herald.
