With White House Chief of Staff John Kelly leaving his post, who will President Trump pick to manage his office’s political affairs?
Several names have been tossed around and are rumored to be under consideration, including U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows (R), chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
According to Fox News, Meadows has had “conversations” about the job, but it appears as if Vice President Mike Pence’s outgoing Chief of Staff, Nick Ayers, was the clear frontrunner to lead Trump’s White House staff.
Not anymore.
Ayers is said to be leaving Pence’s office to run a pro-Trump Super PAC, but that could all change, even as Trump tries to nix the “Fake News” reports that Ayers will be his next Chief, or ‘gatekeeper.’
I am in the process of interviewing some really great people for the position of White House Chief of Staff. Fake News has been saying with certainty it was Nick Ayers, a spectacular person who will always be with our #MAGA agenda. I will be making a decision soon!
Ayers tweeted that he would be leaving the administration at year’s end.
Thank you @realDonaldTrump, @VP, and my great colleagues for the honor to serve our Nation at The White House. I will be departing at the end of the year but will work with the #MAGA team to advance the cause. #Georgia
